Why should I choose Menorca?

Menorca is the most virgin of the Balearic Islands and is an authentic paradise of beauty. It has 19 natural areas of special interest (40% of surface of the island), 5 natural reserves, a marine reserve (greatest in extension of all the marine reserves of the Balearic Islands) and the Natural Park of the Lagoon d'es Grau, a paradise for migratory birds, fish and reptiles. In addition, people of the island have very well integrated in the environment the rural nuclei, formed by typically Mediterranean constructions that harmonize perfectly with the landscape.

If the nature, the landscapes, the virgin coves or the crystalline waters are not still enough reasons to come, you have also to know that the historical heritage of Menorca is huge. It’s been counted more than thousand prehistoric monuments the megalithic taulas (huge stones topped with another to form a T, around 4m high), navetas ( stone-slab constructions shaped like an inverted bread tin), talayots (rock mounds found all over the island), tombs-caves, wells, artificial caves, rest of the Roman time and vestiges of the Islamic period, as well as structures of ancient Christians churches.

The island is also sprinkled by fortifications and watchtowers built up in XVI and XVII centuries for protecting people of the pirate’s attacks. In the towns and cities we can contemplate innumerable religious constructions with diverse architectonic styles like the gothic, neogothic and neoclassic. The Cathedral of Menorca, built in Ciutadella at the end of XIII century over an old Muslim mosque, and ended in XVII century, is the maximum exponent of all this rich patrimony and the most important representation of the gothic style in the island.

Menorca though, is also culture and tradition. Enjoy its local festivities, traditional dances and folk music, the amazing work of its craftsmen, carpenters, ceramists, jewellers, shoemakers or ship carpenters, or the breaking-in of the typical breed of  horses of the island, enjoy its big museums supply and taste his varied gastronomy.

You will be able to enjoy a variety of supplies like sport leisure, (trekking, biking, sailing, water sports or horse riding), or celebration and entertainment walking around by its towns and cities, attending music festivals or enjoying the company of your family and your friends in exclusive restaurants, cosy bars or discos with a sea view.

Don’t think one more minute about it and come enjoy with us in the Aurora Boreal this Mediterranean paradise. We’re waiting for you!

TIPS

What we eat today?
The gastronomy of Menorca gathers the inheritance of the successive dominations (Arab, Briton, etc.), and is also represented in the ways and customs of the local people, farmers and fishermen. The fresh fish and specially the lobster are the base of the menu of many of the best restaurants of the island. The typical cheese from Mahón, the cold cured meat “sobrasada”,  the gin, the different kind of meats, the confectionery “ensaimadas” or the “mahonesa” sauce is some of the gastronomical examples that you will be able to enjoy during your stay in the Island.

How is the weather?
During practically all the year, Menorca has a typically Mediterranean climate; with light and humid winters, and dry and warm summers. The best time to enjoy a pleasant climate is, without any doubt, between the months of May and September, when the temperatures reach maximum values of between 21 and 26 Celsius degrees.
